Is 6 years old too late for ABA therapy?

Six years old is not too late for ABA therapy. Starting earlier has advantages, but school-age children make real progress too. At 6, goals often shift toward skills that matter in kindergarten and first grade: following classroom routines, asking for help, handling transitions, playing with classmates and managing frustration.

Therapy for a 6-year-old often looks different from toddler programs. There may be fewer hours, more work on social skills, and sessions that fit around the school day, including support at school when the district approves it. Coordinating with your child’s IEP team helps everyone use the same approach. Utah Medicaid and Utah’s autism insurance law do not set an age cutoff at 6 for ABA coverage.
