What if I can’t afford ABA therapy?
If you can’t afford ABA therapy, start by finding out what coverage your child already has or could get. Utah Medicaid covers ABA for eligible members with an autism diagnosis, and Utah CHIP has covered ABA since July 2021. Children with disabilities can sometimes qualify for Medicaid through a waiver even when family income is above the usual limit.
If you have an employer plan, ask HR whether it is fully insured or self-funded. Utah’s autism law requires many fully insured plans to cover ABA. You can also ask a provider about fewer weekly hours focused on your top goals, plus parent training so you can carry the strategies through the week.
